"Let the Children Come to Me"

Children have an innate sense of the natural law. I was recently reading an article from Catholic Answers that described a three-year-old child who, after seeing a picture of an abortion, sorrowfully asked his mother, "Who broke the baby?" Another time, a child of seven from a liberal but charitable family turned to me and said, "I know men can get married to men but something doesn't seem right about it."

I believe this is what Christ means when He says, "Let the children come to Me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the Kingdom of Heaven." (Matthew 9:14) Although they need to be educated, children have a natural sense of right and wrong that many adults have forcibly silenced through conformity to different agendas. Only the adults are denying basic moral truths by accepting such great evils as our society promotes today. Instead of holding onto traditional values, bad philosophy, loud voices, and a great deal of selfishness have turned our society into one where we are constantly fighting with each other.

As we begin this new year, let us try to reclaim a little bit of our childlike sense of truth. While we should hold onto the good things we have learned since childhood, it is good to get back to basics and never forget the foundation on which these things are built.
